John and Robin Dickson are two of the most respected figures in Texas music. For over four decades, they have been performing, recording, and teaching their unique blend of traditional and contemporary folk music. Their work has helped to shape the sound of Texas music, and they continue to inspire a new generation of musicians.

Dickson grew up in a musical family in San Antonio, Texas. He began playing guitar at an early age, and by the time he was a teenager, he was performing in local clubs. In the early 1970s, he met Robin Pettit, a fellow musician from Austin. They began playing together as a duo, and in 1975, they released their debut album, John and Robin Dickson. The album was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish Dickson as one of the leading voices in Texas music.

Over the years, Dickson has released a string of acclaimed albums, including Live at the Cactus Cafe (1985),Across Borders (1991),and Austin (1999). He has also toured extensively, performing at folk festivals and concert halls all over the world. In addition to his music career, Dickson has also written two books, Keepers of the Flame: The History and Legacy of Texas Folk Music (1996) and The Songbook of John and Robin Dickson (2005).

Dickson is a master of the acoustic guitar, and his playing is characterized by its intricate fingerpicking and soulful melodies. He is also a gifted singer, and his voice has a warm, inviting quality. Dickson's songs are often inspired by the people and landscapes of Texas, and they are filled with vivid imagery and evocative lyrics.

Robin Dickson is a multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, fiddle, banjo, and mandolin. She is also a gifted singer, and her voice is known for its clear, sweet tone. Dickson's songs are often influenced by Celtic music, and they often feature beautiful melodies and intricate harmonies. She is also a talented songwriter, and her songs are often full of wit and charm.

Together, John and Robin Dickson have created a unique and enduring musical legacy. Their music is a blend of traditional and contemporary folk music, and it is both timeless and relevant. They are two of the most respected and influential figures in Texas music, and they continue to inspire a new generation of musicians.

The City of Austin is proud to sponsor John and Robin Dickson. They are two of the most important figures in Texas music, and their work has helped to shape the sound of Texas music for over four decades. They are a true treasure, and we are grateful for their contributions to our city.
