Kindergarten and First Grade

For kindergarten and first grade students, the focus should be on developing a strong foundation in basic multiplication and division concepts. Here are a few games that can help:

  • Roll and Multiply: This game is a great way to practice multiplication facts up to 5. To play, you'll need a die and a piece of paper. Roll the die and then multiply the number you rolled by 2, 3, 4, or 5. Write your answer on the paper. The first player to reach 100 wins.
  • Division Dominoes: This game is a great way to practice division facts up to 5. To play, you'll need a set of dominoes. Each player takes turns drawing dominoes from the pile. The player who draws a domino with the most dots on the left side goes first. That player then divides the number of dots on the left side by the number of dots on the right side. The answer is the number of dots that the player gets to score. The player with the most dots at the end of the game wins.
  • Math Bingo: This game is a great way to review multiplication and division facts. To play, you'll need a bingo card with multiplication and division problems on it. Each player takes turns drawing a number card. The player then finds the product or quotient of the number on the card and the number on their bingo card. If the player has the correct answer, they cover the space on their bingo card. The first player to cover all of the spaces on their bingo card wins.

Second and Third Grade

In second and third grade, students begin to learn more complex multiplication and division concepts, such as multiplying and dividing by 10s and 100s. Here are a few games that can help:

  • Multiplication War: This game is a great way to practice multiplication facts up to 100. To play, you'll need a deck of cards. Each player takes turns drawing a card. The player who draws the card with the highest product wins all of the cards in the middle. The player with the most cards at the end of the game wins.
  • Division Scavenger Hunt: This game is a great way to practice division facts up to 100. To play, you'll need to write down a list of division problems on pieces of paper. Hide the pieces of paper around the room. Give each player a pencil and a clipboard. The players then have to find the pieces of paper and solve the division problems. The first player to solve all of the problems wins.
  • Multiplication and Division Relay Race: This game is a great way to practice multiplication and division facts up to 100. To play, you'll need two teams of players. Each team lines up facing a whiteboard or chalkboard. The first player on each team takes turns solving a multiplication or division problem. The first player to solve their problem correctly gets a point for their team. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Fourth and Fifth Grade

In fourth and fifth grade, students continue to learn more complex multiplication and division concepts, such as multiplying and dividing by decimals and fractions. Here are a few games that can help:

  • Decimal Division Bingo: This game is a great way to practice division of decimals. To play, you'll need a bingo card with division problems on it. Each player takes turns drawing a decimal number card. The player then finds the quotient of the number on the card and the number on their bingo card. If the player has the correct answer, they cover the space on their bingo card. The first player to cover all of the spaces on their bingo card wins.
  • Fraction Multiplication War: This game is a great way to practice multiplication of fractions. To play, you'll need a deck of cards with fractions on them. Each player takes turns drawing a card. The player who draws the card with the highest product wins all of the cards in the middle. The player with the most cards at the end of the game wins.
  • Multiplication and Division Maze: This game is a great way to practice multiplication and division facts up to 100. To play, you'll need a maze with multiplication and division problems on it. The player starts at the beginning of the maze and solves the problems as they go along. The player who reaches the end of the maze first wins.

Sixth Grade

In sixth grade, students continue to learn more complex multiplication and division concepts, such as multiplying and dividing by negative numbers and exponents. Here are a few games that can help:

  • Negative Number Multiplication Bingo: This game is a great way to practice multiplication of negative numbers. To play, you'll need a bingo card with multiplication problems on it. Each player takes turns drawing a number card. The player then multiplies the number on the card by the number on their bingo card. If the player has the correct answer, they cover the space on their bingo card. The first player to cover all of the spaces on their bingo card wins.
  • Exponent Division War: This game is a great way to practice division of exponents. To play, you'll need a deck of cards with exponents on them. Each player takes turns drawing a card. The player who draws the card with the highest quotient wins all of the cards in the middle. The player with the most cards at the end of the game wins.
  • Multiplication and Division Challenge: This game is a great way to practice multiplication and division facts up to 100. To play, you'll need two players and a whiteboard or chalkboard. Each player takes turns writing a multiplication or division problem on the board. The other player then has to solve the problem. The player who solves the problem correctly gets a point. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.
